2. COMMUNITY LINKS:

3. NEIGHBOURHOOD FUNDRAISING AND SUPPORT

  • Families can get help by fundraising in their community. Some examples are: bake sales or car washes with groups like Boy Scouts or local schools.
  • Recreation equipment may be adapted with the help of a handy friend or neighbour.
  • Check with your local sports store or treatment centre for modifications too.

4.         FITNESS TAX CREDIT

  • All children age 16 and under are eligible for a $500 Fitness Tax Credit for participation in (qualifying) recreation programs that promote health and fitness.
  • Children with disabilities (who receive the Disability Tax Credit) age 18 and under are eligible for an additional credit of $500, for a total of up to a $1000 fitness tax credit each year.  Please visit www.fin.gc.ca/news06/06-084e.html or www.prontario.org/creditFAQ.htm or call 1-613-996-8080 for more information.

5.         ASK!

  • ASK the director of the recreation program or head of the equipment company to find out if they can help  with costs – very often, companies and organizations have their own in-house subsidies or discounts, such as a discount when more than one child in a family attends the program.  Sometimes the recreation program, camp, manufacturer or distributor may have information about other funders or places that help get funding.
